The arrest of a drama queen
I just heard VOA Hausa confirming the arrest of ex-Gov Babangida Aliyu (Talba) of Niger State on corruption charges.
We want all our money back. If he can't pay, then all his assets should be forfeited.
Reports say he was invited, but refused to show. So they grabbed him.
Obviously the EFCC process can be frustratingly long.
I remember in 2015, one of the people appointed by the incumbent governor to investigate Talba's administration told me that when Abu Lolo called from New York (he went to the UN with PMB), he asked if the EFCC had visited Niger.
Because at that time, a petition had already been sent including bank accounts details. But EFCC said our bank details are only for the purposes of complaint and needed their own statements from the banks for prosecution.
Meanwhile the people of Niger State were breathing down the neck of the new governor to probe Talba.
I actually laughed when some even alleged that Lolo had reached an agreement with Talba to shield him - when I knew the Gov urgently wanted the money back and put to better use.
Then EFCC started inviting the officials who worked with Talba, which made us happy.
Now the big fish 🐟 is in the net.
