Niger Airport Under Renovation

By Abdullberqy U Ebbo

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, once again proving that governance remains serious business,  has approved immediate renovation and upgrading of Minna Airport to meet the standards required by international aviation authorities for safe landing and take-off of flights.

The governor’s directive followed the latest refusal by some International Aviation companies to use the Kaduna airport, expressing comfort with the Minna airport.

Governor Bello, realising the economic and socio-political implication of an International airport, had much earlier pleaded with the federal government (FG) to use Minna as an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, but had lost to Kaduna.

The acting Governor, Alh Ahmed Ketso who was at the airport for on-the-spot assessment and supervision of the renovation/upgrading work which had started, also saw ongoing work on structures (buildings) which the contractor  has promised to complete in a maximum of 15 days.
