It unarguable that the respect enjoyed from the followers are what made the honored to be honorable.
The name SALIHU ADAMU SHADAFI was never tagged with the prefix “Hon” until when he assumed his office as a member of house of representative at the national assembly in 2011 after enjoying a court other that declared him elected with a total vote of 23,137 as compared with the PDP that was presume to have won the election with a total vote of 23,254. Hon SALIHU ADAMU SHADAFI emerged as one of the representatives elected under the platform of the then an opposition party (ANPP) in the state. Since then, he was saddled with the responsibilities of representing two largely populated local governments (Paikoro/Bosso local government), he never had a second person elected into any office on the same platform in the 2 local gov’ts, he was however confronted with the challenge of making the electorate feel the positive agenda of the ANPP and he tried to provide some of the basic needs of the 21 wards within the constituency of which my immediate community benefitted from. He performed satisfactorily as compared with the then ruling party even while battling with a court case on who was the authentic flag bearer of the ANPP. He was popularly called “DAN GATA” due to the fact that he spent little for the election and was the only person elected under the platform of an opposition party within the constituency. The withering, insults and uncomplimentary remarks from his constituency started emanating at mid-2016, when it was evident that he has abandoned the constituency to almost a zero threshold and this coincided with a time when the electorates were pissed-off with the advantage he took from the APC-BUHARI CHANGE TORNADOS that caused both the good, the bad and the ugly to be elected into their respective offices, he reluctantly failed to fulfilled most of his second term electoral promises. Unfortunately, he surfaced in his village at a time when the national assembly is enmeshed in an opposite points of view with the masses, when the elites were perturbed with the way and manner he was representing them in the house as one of the house of reps members that has never sponsored any bill from 2011-DATE.
Inauspiciously, most of the villages in Nigeria are majorly occupied with farming and hunting, where just a little percentage number of people know what petitioning is, just few know what steps are to be taken in recalling a representative at the state or national assembly. The only option they have at their disposal to show their dissatisfaction in the absence of any peaceful protest is to engage in ELECTORATE–ELECTED combat and I guess that necessitated a dirty slap and subsequent beatings from his people.
Even if I personally frown at engaging in any form of physical combat as a solution to a problem, talk more of engaging in fight with a leader. I will have no option than supporting such act when it happens to be the last resort for vengeance of bad leadership. Especially when diversion of public funds to personal funds is the order of the day…
