Nasarawa Gets Food Processing Zone

April 1

Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Almakura has constructed a food processing zone in Lafiya to help farmers in adding value to their produce and minimize waste environmental pollution.

Handing over rice incubation and processing facility to the leadership of Rice Millers Association in Lafia, Al-makura said the processing zone would provide all the necessary input to carry out their activities especially water and electricity.
He encouraged farmers to form cooperative societies in line with the crops they produce so that government would find it easy to interface with them to offer necessary incentives and other government interventions.
He stated further that more transformers and boreholes would be provided as more food processors take advantage of the initiative.
The governor said it was regrettable that farmers incur colossal losses during processing their crops owing to lack of modern input, promising that government would work hard to ensure that farmers get desired value from their harvests.
He explained that the state would not be left behind in the ongoing rice revolution spearheaded by the federal government, noting that improved variety of seeds, cuttings and other farm inputs would be provided by government to ensure improved yield capacity.
